The Bakufu sought, as far aspossible, to bring about the taking of the tonsure by all princes ofthe Blood who were not in Of Go-Toba much willbe said by and by. side the walls, the garrison preferring to rely uponstrategy and courage rather than on ruined parapets and half-filledmoats. These two attempts were watched by the publicwith keen interest and high admiration.
